Strategic Plan for Natural Resource Management in the CWLA

Introduction

What is the Strategic Plan for Natural Resource Management (NRM) in CWLA?

A guide for property owners and community groups in the Central West Lachlan Area (CWLA) to coordinate actions to improve the environment.

The Plan:

  • Assesses the environment of the CWLA (almost 1 million hectares)
  • Identifies environmental issues and their locations in the CWLA
  • Prioritises these issue and locations
  • Proposes strategic environmental actions.

Why was it prepared?

  • To improve local understanding of environmental issues in the CWLA
  • To direct limited financial and human resources to best effect
  • To expand investment in the environment from private, commercial and government sources
  • To help the 25 Landcare and other community groups in each of the 18 subcatchments of the CWLA to:
    • assess the natural resource management situation in their locality;
    • agree on priority natural resource management issues
    • prepare community environmental plans and individual property action plans
    • prepare specific funding proposals to activate these environmental plans.

What does it provide?

  • For Catchment Management Authorities and others sponsoring sustainable development: a means to coordinate NRM investments and activities in the CWLA for maximum impact.
  • For farmers: NRM information for planning and implementing NRM activities on their properties, and for obtaining funding support.
  • For town's people: information about their local environment and what NRM actions they can take to sustain and improve it.
