Welcome to Central West Lachlan Landcare

(Formally known as Parkes and Districts Landcare)

Welcome to the Central West Lachlan Landcare Website. CWLL was formally known as Parkes and Districts Landcare and we are currently in a transition process with our name. This website has been developed to provide access to news and data relating to landcare activities in the Central West and Lachlan area and also in a broader context. The activities of Landcare are the result of volunteers that have a desire to maintain and improve their environment-promoting natural resource management and sustainable farming practices. This is achieved through on-ground works, coordinating and implementing field days and workshops, and working in with schools and like minded organisations. Read More »

Conservation Farming Field Day - Parkes (Thursday, 23 February 2012)

The 2012 Conservation Farming Field Day will be held at the Parkes Racecourse, Eugowra Road, Parkes on 23 February. Parkes Racecourse offers an excellent site for the 2012 field day. CANFA will again link up with Central West Farming Systems, FarmLink Research and, for the first time, Central West Lachlan Landcare Incorporated to run the event.

Last year's field day attracted in excess of 1,000 visitors. However, due to the field day's long-term association with Parkes, it is expected there may be more than this at the February 2012 event. Several machinery manufacturers and dealers will release updates to their equipment or release new machines at this year’s field day. A number of machines will be shown for the first time at the field day which is becoming well known as a launching pad for new designs. Not surprisingly, many of the new machines are disc planters. If you are available to volunteer at the Field Day, contact Marg on 6862 4914 or email pdlsc@bigpond.com.

Community Action Grants Open

Community Action Grants are a small grants component of the Australian Government's Caring for our Country initiative that aims to help local community groups take action to conserve and protect their natural environment. The grants are targeted towards established local community-based organisations that are successfully delivering projects to support sustainable farming and/or protect and enhance the natural environment.

Each year, investment proposals are sought from environmental, Indigenous, Landcare, Coastcare and sustainable agriculture community groups for grants of between $5000 and $20 000 (GST exclusive) to take action to help protect and conserve Australia's natural resources and environment.

For more information on Community Action Grants go tohttp://www.nrm.gov.au/funding/cag/index.html, send your contact details to communityactiongrants@nrm.gov.au or call the Caring for our Country hotline on 1800 552 008. Applications close on 27 March 2012.

Lachlan River Carp Cleanup @ Welcome Weir - Parkes

On Friday, 11 November, between 3pm - 8pm, Parkes and Districts Landcare held the Carp Cleanup at Welcome Weir. Parkes locals had the chance to show off their fishing prowess at the Clean Up A Lachlan Carp Day. It was fantastic to have children making up half of the 80 entrants spending the afternoon fishing in the peaceful, shady surrounds at Welcome Weir vying to be champion angler.

As well as the fishing competition, the NSW Department of Fisheries had their fish van, with live fish on display. Keith Bell from K&R Fisheries also held carp cooking demonstrations so that everyone had the chance to taste carp cooked the way it should be. When they weren’t fishing, children had the opportunity to get involved in craft activities and face painting.

We would like to thank our local sponsors for the day: Lachlan CMA; Parkes Camping World; Coles; Parkes Shire Council and McDonalds. For more information, click here.

2011 NSW Landcare Catchment Management Forum

The 2011 NSW Landcare Catchment Management Forum, was held in Parkes from 5 - 7 September 2011, and offered a dynamic program of events, including field trips, workshops, networking functions and presentations from a huge line up of cutting edge speakers and included the NSW State Landcare Awards Dinner.

The Forum would not have been possible without the sponsorship and support of the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (CMA). The principal sponsor has provided support to the 2011 NSW Landcare and Catchment Management Forum and Parkes & Districts Landcare, including employee resources on the Forum Steering committee, co-ordinating the Field Trips, facilitating Kids Landcare Carnival and monitoring registrations.

The presentations from the Forum will be available from our website in the next month. Keep a check on our website for further information.
